Is this curvy concept car the next Volvo S60? We certainly hope so.

Volvo took the wraps off this stunning S60 concept at the Detroit show. And yes, as many in the crowd expected, this curvy sedan gives us a very good glimpse of what the production version of the all-new S60 will look like when it arrives in 2010. We particularly like the roofline, which is even more coupe-inspired than the current car’s, and the pronounced fender flares, which give this 4-seat Swede an aggressive stance that will be complemented by significantly sportier driving manners, promises Volvo.

This new Cadillac boasts the Chevrolet Volt’s intriguing long-range electric powertrain.

GM’s charismatic executive Bob Lutz always makes a grand entrance at the Detroit show. This year he was chauffeured onstage in a Cadillac concept car called the Converj. It looks much like a Cadillac CTS Coupe, but with swoopier proportions and an electric hum. That’s right; it has a powertrain like the Chevrolet Volt’s, a technology that Chevy now calls Voltec instead of E-flex. That means the front wheels are driven by a 161-hp electric motor, with juice coming from a 16-kWh battery pack made up of 220 lithium-ion cells. When the battery gets low, a small gasoline generator kicks on and supplies the required power. The size (and type) of this generator is still pure speculation in both the Volt and the Converj.
